Green as life and warmth aglow, was opportunity, fresh and blue –
In the luncheon of the boating party, I saw you.
Eyes aglow, disposition skewed; the look of love, and lost were you.
For he was there but he was not; across the deck, alas, was her.
A look she meant a thousand words, yet he saw none but fantasies full.
Take heart, perhaps, it would not last; but here and now, perhaps, take heart.
Listen, alas you do not; o dweller of dreams, o lover of reverie.
Your cognition has dulled; your discernment lacking altogether.
But here I stood and watched you fall, through the skies and stars above.
All logic, in love, abandoned; all for a dream, in love, abandoned.
And as she dreamed, her trance induced; life relinquished, bright as day.
‘Twas him she chose, him who sat still; yet never could divine his will.
His mystery was never her duty, but she pursued, in vain, alas.
Her heart, so pure, endangered; her heart, so pure, salvaged.
I worry still, but stand powerless; the sky decides, unless we do.
But lost you were, and lost you’ll be; ’twas not my place, nor will it be.
And now the beast is worth envy, perhaps abandon now your slumber.
But you will not, and perhaps never; and you will not, the luncheon presses.
Here is my story, here and now; a girl in love so hopelessly lost.
Perhaps then, as midday rolls; that it was I, most truly lost.
I see things slip as my hands flail, but straws evade all grip, alas.
My heart, perhaps, has found it’s home; my heart, perhaps, will never know.
