Don’t you think so? I find it rather intriguing, but from personal experience it does seem to be true. Be honest about something, and you get stares, awkward laughs; you become the general amusement of those around you. Perhaps it is well-received one moment, but will it be well-received the next? That, too, is left to a game of chance.
What I’m saying is – what’s wrong with people?
Most of us – we’re socialized into believing that our thoughts should be kept to ourselves, and that to be ‘proper’ one should exercise restraint and calculation of thought. That’s really not a bad thing – polite and directed conversations are a pleasure to have. It is a way of speaking, and a way of speaking well, to which I have nothing but utmost admiration. ‘Open and honest’ communication’ can be executed in numerous ways – brash, polite, civil, controlled… What have you. But the content of such communications are what matters most.
I try… And I really am trying my best. To care for the people I care about, to be interested in the things that matter, and to speak of issues that truly matter to me as a person. I started a journey to rid myself of my negative habits, efforts which truly rekindled just about when I started this site. It hasn’t been easy, and I often fail, but it isn’t that bad – I’m really not coming up with a handful of mud either. The journey never gets easier… But we’ll get stronger along the way, with every challenge we face.
I’ve realized, understood and accepted it. But running’s not an option now.

Being open and honest scares people.
