YES – this is a new website. My site. Completely responsive. Looks spiffy. Paid for the domain and all. But you can hold the congratulations indefinitely because I’ve still yet to figure out how to use this site effectively. But having had the pleasure of making friends with Dr Lunghi, I am very fortunate to have come across this quote (courtesy of him, of course):
“When you reach for the stars, you may not quite get one, but you won’t come up with a handful of mud either.” – Leo Burnett
It is in this spirit that I begin my own web journey. In any case, thought that since I was in this industry I might as well be doing stuff like this as a form of commitment. Just like gym – they conspicuously make you pay oodles of money on a regular just to keep you honest and going to the gym – lest your money goes to waste.
Money seems to be such a motivator in today’s world, but it’s not everyday that you choose to commit yourself to something.
It usually takes one critical moment – a point in time in life, a prompt to tip the balance over to the other end of the scale. In some instances, commitment is the desire for stability. In others, it a crusade against stability. But commitment, in no part a solution in itself, is an irreplaceable portion of success. Endeavour, in which commitment is intrinsic, whittles the mountains down and brings the skies to our feet.
Commitment is king… for those who know it’s value.
Science has told us the story once, and one only has to observe such matters closely to stumble upon the singular truth that constant work on a specific goal greatly increases the chances of one’s success in the matter. Put simply, and as my Physics teacher used to say —
“When something is confusing, perhaps it will help if you think in extremes”
Case in point: with all factors constant (i.e. you are of sound mind and intellect and nothing goes wrong to change this), let’s take for example that you wanted to learn a language and had 10 years to learn it instead of 10 days – would you have a better chance of mastering this language?
So it is with little hesitation that I picked the phone up. It is with no hesitation that I made promises and committed myself to be held to the highest standards. But is that the right way to do it? Well I’ll find out soon enough. It does seem rather rushed but if I don’t do it now, when would I ever?
Either way, it’s taken a lot of effort to actually begin writing again. As with many, writing never really becomes a long-term habit because of the actual amount of effort it requires to actually take a pen up to write. And sometimes, you’ll need to be in the right state of mind (which I am sure I am not in at the moment) but thank goodness for Sundance channel I caught one of the best movies I’ve ever laid my eyes on and came away with this beautiful quote:
“You must write your first draft with your heart. You rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is to write, not to think!” – William Forrester (Finding Forrester – 2000)
And it is on this note that I conclude my first attempt at webbie content; it’s more of an unclassified blog post but I’m writing from the heart, right? The head’s telling me to be less cryptic…
